Why I love this image - First Dance

Following on with my little series on image that I love. I talk about the first dance...

The first dance.

The first dance as husband and wife.

I have seen some expertly choreographed first dances in my time as a wedding photographer, they always look stunning! I really do look forward to this time of the evening.

This special moment is one of my favourites of 2014.

You can really see the love they have for each other.

(Of course the band set up and raised the roof shortly after, but this was their moment)

Why I love this image - The yawn

The cradled yawn

What's not to love about this image? I spotted this adorable baby being passed to Grandfather for a snuggle. His granddad's seemingly large hand, cradles the tiny baby close to his chest as he looks down with fondness at his newest family addition, giving an almighty yawn.

I really don't need words to describe this beautiful moment, needless to say this Wedding in Somerset was a stunner and one I will not forget in a hurry.

For the Photographers out there this image was taken with the very discrete Fuji X-T1.  Close proximity with the 35mm lens, perfect for documentary photographers like myself

Why I love this image - the half portrait

Why I love this image - The half portrait

I really like this image, everything about it, the mans expressions as he talks to the elderly lady, the way he holds his empty glass and the background filled with guests. I purposely shot this image in such a way, so we can only see half of the gentleman's face. Sure I could have stepped to the left a little and had him fully in view, but, I think this works far better and makes for a more interesting picture.

I tried this image in colour first, but knew deep down it would ultimately be a B & W image. This image was shot using the fuji X-E1 camera with the 35mm lens. This image is one of my favorites from the day, simple yet powerful.

This kind of image is why I love documentary wedding photography, the freedom to move about and see the moment without directing or asking for attention. It allows me to capture many priceless moments like this.

Why I love this image - The Proud Hug

Why I love this image - The proud hug

At a recent Notley Tythe Barn wedding, the grooms father embraces his new daughter in law with a warm and sincere hug. You can really see in the father's face, just how proud and happy he is today.

Images like this cannot be posed, a documentary approach to Weddings allows me to be there and ready in the moment. I am very fortunate to have captured this and I feel this is a real emotive and treasured image.
